For those wanting the 'ultimate'- we've identified the most advanced energy efficient building standard
in the world. Drawing on over two decades of German precision building technology that is simply unmatched.
By making available the best products and technology from around the world Sustainable passive building doesn't have to be limited to any one design. The 'Passive House' standard is set to revolutionise the future of building and how homes interact with the environment and occupants alike. They achieve this by providing year round comfort regardless of the climate without the typical environmental implications and ever increasing running costs of a conventional build.
Passive House explained in 90 seconds
The passive house concept was developed back in
Germany in 1991. A Professor by the name of Dr. Wolfgang Fiest was convinced there was simply a better way to live by implementing intelligent, energy efficient and sustainable design measures above and beyond current building codes. This vision has spread to over 45 countries worldwide with Passive Edge Homes positioned to make available this ultimate standard to all our valued clients.
What's the benefit?
Passive house is a voluntary building standard that’s simply unparalleled in regards to their superior energy efficiency, comfort levels and performance. Passive Houses allow for energy savings related to heating and cooling requirements
of up to 90% for typical building types and over 75% when compared to new builds adhering to the latest energy rating requirements. The heat generated from the occupants and appliances used are generally enough in themselves to maintain a comfortable inside air temperature year round in most cases. To build to the Passive House standard is not only a sound investment for you and your families wellbeing, based on the documented proven performances of certified designs for over 20 years in 45 countries worldwide, it simply makes sense.

The 5 principles

Passive House designs almost always feature higher
levels of insulation above the current recommendations.
Keep in mind that additional upfront costs pays off from the installation date throughout the life cycle of the building by providing decreased energy requirements from thereon.
All opaque components of the exterior building envelope must contain superior products and undergo various tests
in order to determine the airtightness of the building.
It is only after reaching certain acceptable Passive House values that the home will be awarded certification.
Every edge, corner, connection, penetration and join must be carefully planned so as to avoid thermal bridges. Whilst these can be difficult to eliminate completely, their effects must be minimized to prevent unwanted fluctuations in performance.
Double or even triple glazed, high quality, certified passive house windows are all standard features on a build. Transparent components are a critical component of any build. Careful planning and design is paramount in order to maintain the desired comfort levels year-round regardless
of the climate.
